❤️ In most cases, kids aren't going to politely te ❤️ In most cases, kids aren't going to politely tell someone they're struggling with big emotions.

They might, however, act out in ways that come across as challenging to us.

They might refuse to start their assignment, hide under their desk, raise their voice, do things to make others laugh, or just shut down.

This doesn't mean those behaviors are acceptable for their classroom. They're not.

But recognizing that challenging behaviors are often a clue into the bigger picture is incredibly powerful.

So, what can busy educators do?

We can keep building relationships slowly day after day. We can find out what makes each kid smile. We can teach appropriate social skills. We can practice and reinforce classroom routines. We can check in. We can listen to what a child has going on. We can care. We can practice healthy coping skills with ALL learners (because we all need those skills anyway).

And also, we can be kind to ourselves in these challenging times. All educators have a lot on their plates at the moment. Please know you are doing an amazing job.

It's not necessarily an overnight or easy fix (it never is), but we can make baby steps together. That's where the real change happens.

Back to school FREEBIE headed your way! Going bac Back to school FREEBIE headed your way!

Going back to school can seriously feel daunting for kids. The good news is that we can help cultivate more positive feelings with a little gratitude.

This gratitude activity encourages students to pause and think about what they are grateful for in school, from the big things like meeting new friends to the seemingly small things like the smell of pizza in the cafeteria.

Start the year off strong with your students by helping them build focus and attention strategies that work for them.

I designed these step-by-step lessons to provide actionable strategies (not fluff). They teach kids how to calm their bodies and minds, break tasks down, keep a positive mindset, stay engaged even when they feel bored, refocus when they get stuck, and much more.

These are perfect if you're wanting to try something new in your classroom this year to help your learners strengthen their focus and attention skills.

This is an awesome list to keep at the front board. Whenever you need a quick brain break, pick a question (or have kids pick) and share.

Not only will you learn about your students, but they will learn about each other. Sometimes, it's the small things like learning someone's favorite animal or hearing about a fun hobby they do outside of school.

Sending lots of love for a fantastic back to school season.
